OK--I'm a Virginian that loves historical accuracy. I thought "Candy Cummings" was credited with the curve ball. Says so on his HOF Plaque.

I think we might have to travel to Cooperstown to do some research.

In Cummings Bio by the HOF it says he is "often cited as having invented the curve ball"Cummings Bio

In the info I found this morning on Charles Ferguson it says he is reputed to be the player who invented it, and that came from the HOF Library.

Both players played about the same time. Guess it would be safe to say he is one of the players who is credited with inventing it or at least perfecting it.

Eppa Rixey was a GREAT pitcher, but he did not not invent or discover the breaking ball...
