Awesome story - those last 2 paragraphs brought me to tears.
Infield, I cried for quite a while after I read it. With support, love, and hard work anything is possible.
Before his first SEC road trip as a starter, Mahtook texted his mother as he boarded the flight for Athens, Ga. He hit those last two numbers on her cell phone, "54," which was the late Mikie Mahtook's jersey number at LSU.
"I got my per diem for the trip, mom," Mikie wrote. "I'm well taken care of. It's $54. My daddy's with me."
An awesome story......thanks for sharing.....sniff

Not a dry eye in the house after reading that story! Thanks for posting...
We here at the hsbbweb have a young man at Tulane who lost his Dad tragically last year. I think about him and his Mom (baseballmom) often.

From a very young age my son and Mikie played ball on the fields of the Lafayette Little League and later opposing each other in various travel teams. I can remember his twin sisters at just about every game along with his entourage of uncles and aunts. You could tell he had special talent. Both are living a dream, my son playing college ball, too. I'm still here to see my son play. Mikie's dad is watching him, too, but has a different perspective. Go LSU!! Go BSC!!!
