I am watching the replay of a brawl between Peoria and Dayton of the MWL. Both are low A teams.
In the midst of things, a pitcher from Peoria launches a ball into the stands.
The report says it struck a fan causing serious injury.
The player is in jail, the fan at the hospital and the "dream" a "nightmare."
The video I watched is just awful. On Milb I read that earlier in the game one hitter got hit in the head and left the game. The next inning a base runner had a collision and a broken leg is the result.

Ugly business. Leave all those dreams at home.

wow, that's just crazy. frustration and a little testosterone can be an ugly mix. add many young men thrown into a different culture. lookout.

dream becomes a nightmare.

i would think most that dream of pro ball, find that the reality of it differs from the dream. i really hate the fights though.still a pretty cool job.

This happened at one of our games last week at the Perfect Game. Very awful, though accidental. Our lead-off was stealing second, catcher tried a throw-down, second jumped to catch it and came down with left leg in baseline just as our guy was diving into base. HUGE collision that knocked our guy silly and snapped the second baseman's lower leg midway at shin. Result:

Our guy is out for the remainder of the season with a severe concussion, but he's lucky he didn't break his neck.

Their guy had surgery to pin his leg, and missed the family cruise scheduled for the following week. But if his leg hadn't given way, our guy's neck would have.

The second baseman's dad passed out at the sight of his son's leg and had to join the other two in the ambulance.

Terrible! Other than one kid in the opposing dugout who paced around and screamed/ranted at our pitcher the rest of the time (never seen anything like it), everyone acted very mature and the game resumed.
What on earth is wrong with people? I cannot imagine any of my three wanting to have anything to do with a situation like this. None of mine have been involved in a game that got ugly like this or even close, but I would hope all three would all have (or have had) the common sense to keep a cool head. It looked like only a few in the crowd were trying to break things up. The rest were just all emotion - no brains. And whoever decided the game should go on needs to have their head examined as well. 17 ejections all reversed so they could finish the game? Why? I'm sorry - some things really are bigger than baseball.

As for the pitcher who threw the ball toward the dugout - done. Regardless of whatever the legal ramifications, he should never again wear a uniform or be allowed to throw another pitch again at anyone. That would be like a race car driver getting upset and driving his car into the stands - absolutely no excuse or justification for that at all. What if every player from the dugout had grabbed a bat on his way out onto the field to mix it up? I just pray the fan will be OK.

Just sickening to anyone who loves the game of baseball.
Frown

Not sure who the kid/player was who jump-tackled the pitcher to the ground right after the pitcher threw the ball into the dugout/stands,...but thats probably EXACTLY what security should have done!

( Do they even have security at these games??? )

Geeeez.

Not exactly baseball at its finest, eh?

My best goes out to the spectator in the stand who was injured.

"Things got heated when Castillo (0-2) beaned Dayton shortstop Zachary Cozart (they spelled it wrong Wink C not K) ... Cozart left the game." No mention or sight of Zach in the melee that followed. He's one of our local boy's/men, same high school with son and all. I sure hope he's OK, will make some follow up phone calls.

It's been kinda of fun that he is a Dayton Dragon since his high school mascot is also a Dragon.
