Several months ago a player that I know very well verbally committed to a D2 school despite the urging of his juco coach to wait and sign with a D1 program. The D2 school had what the player wanted. Here is where I believe the parent made a mistake. Coach told them they don't have " a lot" of scholarship money, he would do everything he could, but it would be several thousand dollars. After verbally committing the player was contacted by several schools and told them that he had verbally committed. Coach continued contact, etc. Player received NLI for $1,000.00. Player immediately called the coach because he thought that maybe the other money was coming from another source. "Sorry that's all I have," is what the player was told. Player told the coach that he couldn't sign for that because of finances and he thought that they were going to do better. The player is in total shock.

A - The player and parent made a major mistake by not getting something more concrete. But, even if it was, would this still would have happened?

B - His dad is upset with himself for believing what was told and not getting a firm figure.

C - Player spoke with my son and is now scrambling and praying that he can re-kindle the interest that he once had.

I've just told him and his father to start making calls and see what happens.
