At last nights scrimmage there was a young man, probably early 20's with his toddler son. He saw the lights on and brought his son to see his first baseball game.

This young man played baseball in HS and loved the game, but hadn't strapped on the cleats since his HS days. He couldn't wait to coach his young son when he started TBall in a couple of years.

About this point in the conversation, our highly recruited number 4 hitter came up with the bases loaded. He kept telling his little boy, watch this big guy hit. Just watch and see what he'll do.

Almost on cue, the 4 hole hitter hit a bomb, not quite over the fence, but a triple with 3 RBI. The little boys eyes lit up and he told his dad "I wanna do that"

Gawd, I love this game.

It's nice things like your picture that help keep us all grounded.

Unfortunately, if that picture was taken here the grass wouldn't be quite so green and you would see everyones breath.

Thanks for the tease.

Hey, it's almost 60 degrees over here in St. Louis! Headed out to do long toss with the son right now. Sorry, just rubbing it in from this side of the state. We'll have the cold weather tonight or tomorrow I guess.
I just love that photo.
Talked with our son who is in Fla beginning informal workouts. That and this photo brought back a pretty vivid image.
Started sharing a Spring Training trip when he was 9. One day we were at Scottdale Stadium. I noticed him standing by himself in a pose not much different than this child in JT's photo.
At the time, I never "dreamed" he would have a chance to be on the other side of that fence. Didn't realize until much later that he has never stopped "dreaming" of being on the other side of that fence.
