We are busy compiling our post-season Triple A All State Baseball Team.

Much like we did last year2010 All State Team!

Please post your nominations, as our group of 'experts' will be meeting this week to make our final selections!

South County catching standout Mike Perez (pictured) made the team as a junior and will be in contention again this year!

In addition to our regular all-state team, we are going to be naming an all-'underclassmen' team, featuring the best non-senior baseball players from Triple A. If you have nominations for that team, please post them as well.

Remember, in order for your nomination to have the best possible chance for selection, please include stats, etc. for justification.

Thanks, as always, for any input!

I would certainly believe you would have to look at the state champion team first and fill positions based upon the players efforts during the season and the tournament.I would think it to be a mistake to start at the back of the train and look forward. To the victor go the spoils of the game.J. Lee for Short-stop!Wiley Lee definitely coach/manager!Preston Grissom outfield,Flarity pitcher and so on.Yes I am bias,so go Wildcats.Perez for Catcher,Go Monarchs! Smile

Disagree strongly with that. Winning a championship is a TEAM event. (Just ask the Heat) and being selected to All-State is very much an individual honor. You could easily have the best of any one position on teams that never sniffed the State championship tournament, let alone the title game.

Granted that chances are good that some of the best will be one the champion team but to go into the selection with that biased opinion is to really open yourself to doing a serious injustice to players who might truly deserve the award...
Selection to All-State should be based on the individuals stats but weighted to the success of the team. You will only have a true All-State deserving team when you do it by a blind pick. Determine how the stats will be kept and the value of the stats weighted to count more the bigger the game. Put the players stats on a sheet without the name and pick your team. Where a ballplayer is going, where he was drafted or what he did last year should have no bearing on making a team this year.
Nomadad... It would be a boring board if we all agreed!!! Its okay to be biased. I am the dad of a son who I think is super special and don't even feel bad about thinking it... hahahaha

I love the debate and the opinions, no matter whether I agree with them or not. If someone drops an opinion out there that can stand the test of the posters on this board then it must be a good one...

And I REALLY agree with bxbomber. I have already seen a couple of players on All-District, All-Met etc. that were based on reputation and not what they did this season. Sometimes it looks like they are placed on the teams by people who have a vested interest in putting them there, people too lazy to really take the time to do the research and/or just too afraid of taking some heat for leaving them off...
We have sat in on some of the coaches selection meetings, and sometimes those are very crazy, with lots of 'issues' involved besides what the kids did on the field. Politics, jealousy, etc. and the kids end up the losers.

While I think the AAA coaches did a good job in selecting their team, we feel that we provide a different perspective and don't have the ties or biases that some coaches might naturally have.

We aren't restricted to selecting only kids that made all region. Perhaps there were circumstances that caused them not to make all region, but they should receive all state consideration...we can look into that.

But time is running out, get any suggestions into ASAP.....
