James River won despite scheduled starter Daniel Marrs being scratched with a recurrence of shoulder tendonitis. A.J. Prill and Chris Briere gave up 10 hits but left bases loaded twice, 10 LOB in all for Forest Park. Austin Stadler and Chris Briere accounted for all the JR runs with two three-run HR's.
Deep Run seemed determined to give its game away early, misplaying one ball to turn 1 run into 2, then giving away 3 unearned runs on 3 errors in the third. But Matt Snyder drove a grand slam to cap off a 6-run outburst that put Deep Run suddenly on top, 6-5, after 3. Deep Run gave the lead right back in the 4th, with a passed ball and another error leading to yet another unearned run. But they then used a half steal play to force a rundown between first and second that allowed the winning run to steal home in the 4th. South County got a leadoff hit in the 6th and that runner reached third with no outs when a pickoff throw went down the right field line. But Deck McGuire came on to get a K, a popped-up bunt, and another K to strand the potential tying run at 3rd. He then mowed 'em down in the 7th for the save.
