Well, now that they have 2 losses they might slip down to Second place.
James River has had two back-to-back games where they took advantage of walks to get most of their runs and really didn't swing it in a dominant way. That followed their first games, where they just steamrolled teams.

So the only question in my mind at this point is whether someone who also has dominant pitching could shut them down and win a dogfight type of game. I'm hoping we see a Deep Run - James River game in the regionals. That might be the tightest, most intense matchup we could muster in our region this year.

And he did'nt charge you for it !!! Razz
Well, you get what you pay for!

I've been told many times that my opinions were worthless. I'm still angling to see if someone will go so far as to pay me to stay completely silent. Then I'll be able to retire early!

BTW, JR goes to Cosby Thursday afternoon, so that's about as good a test as you're going to see for a while. Cosby has one loss already, but you can bet your bottom dollar they'll be ready to fight hard for 21 outs come Thursday.
With Lake Braddock at two loses, I'm looking forward to next weeks AAA Baseball Top Ten. I'd be giving Deep Run some love, and I'm expecting Cosby to drop off the list after they play JR tomorrow. Cosby is a good team with a great coach, but I'm not sure they are top 10 at this point in the season. They seem to be getting alot of residual love from 2010.

It's no worse than putting a 3-2 North Stafford team as an honorable mention because they got killed by JR 16-0 and lost to Paul VI...

I understand if you lose 3-2 or something like that, but seriously??? End the love affair with one player please...

They got beat by St. Johns...who were #1 in DC Metro most of last year and are currently undefeated and #1 in the DC area now...both teams are very good...just my opinion...Smile

Thank you for the response keewart and Midlo. I do remember hearing that was a scrimmage.

It seems that Fanof2 is a rival of N. Stafford and particularly a certain player that plays there...

Rival to all in the district, but not in an ugly way. I looked on multiple web sites for all teams and saw the score posted. To say I was shocked at the score was an understatement, there was no mention of it being a scrimmage and most teams do not post scores of scrimmages. So for that, I clearly understand and retract that.

IMO, NS is the team to beat in the Commonwealth District, they have a core of returning players from a very good team a year ago, so until someone in the district beats them, they are the team.

Having said that, if you read the FLS articles, they make every game played sound like it's one against nine. I think thtas a disservice to the rest of the team. Additionally, they do have a loss (not two as I have been corrected) and until their latest game have had what I woould categorize as a lack of offensive production for such an experienced team. Those things make me question the validity of the HM selection, given there are several other teams that have the same or better records and have done it 'with the stick'. And none of those belong in the Commonwealth District I might add.
Fanof2,

Completely understand and respect your opinion. Everyone is entitled to one and your respectfully and well thought out response makes yours better then others who jump on and spout things just because they own a CPU, internet connection and a lot of free time.

I personally have no dog in the fight but am very aware as a frequent reader of this and other blogs that the player in question has been attacked multiple times on this and other message boards and no high school age kid deserves that. I don't read the FLS (assuming that is the Free Lance Star??) but am very aware that sometimes a paper highlights certain players more then others. Usually it is deserving. At the high school level however they USUALLY do a good job of "spreading the wealth."

Let's also take into account the examples that the major media outlets set for our local media outlets. Yesterday while watching Baseball Tonight the major talk from the Cardinals - Padres game was Albert Pujols grounding into 3 double plays, not necessarily the Padres winning. I don't know one local sportsreporter (in my region) who's dream wasn't to work for ESPN, or any other major sports affiliate, so why wouldn't that particular writer adopt the same "tendancies" of the pros.
Coach2 - I agree. Bashing a HS player on a board is silly and unproductive. No doubt those other posts to bash are made in jealousy. I am sure that player (and a few others on that team) are quality D1 athletes. However, I think that the HM selection has more to do with giving credit to a player's past accomplishments than present team effort. Based on record and present performance.

Then again, that's the opinion of the sports writers, and my opinion differs...and we all know what opinions are worth! Message Board fodder!!!

Looking forward to watching some footb...er, baseball games tonight - gotta love this weather.

We will see what the rest of the season brings
