It might be early yet ACC Baseball in 2012
could very well be a three tier league?

Top Tier : 4 Teams
Florida State
North Carolina
NC State
Miami

Middle Tier: 4 Teams
Wake Forest
Clemson
Virginia
Ga Tech

Bottom Dwellers
Duke
Boston College
Maryland
Va Tech

There are really no surprises in the bottom dwellers nor the Top Tier.
It will be interesting to see if the remaining six weekends of ACC play will
significantly change the tiers.

Two week later, what has changed

Top Tier : 4 Teams (the same)
Florida State
North Carolina
NC State
Miami

Middle Tier: 6 Teams (more parity)
Clemson
Virginia
Wake Forest
Maryland
Ga Tech
Boston College

Bottom Dwellers (2 teams)
Duke
Boston College

ACC play over the next four series will be interesting to watch the playoff contenders.
With two series remaining (and the magic number could be 13 W's):

Top Tier : 3 Teams (NCAA Regionals bound)
Florida State
NC State
North Carolina

Middle Tier: 3 Teams (ACC Playoff bound)
Clemson
Miami
Virginia

Lower Tier: 6 Teams (on the Proverbial Bubble)
(two of six move on, the other four stay home)
Ga Tech
Wake Forest
Maryland
Va. Tech
Boston College
Duke

ACC play over the next two series will be both the playoffs and Regional contenders and pretenders.

NCAA Super Regional Host ACC candidates

NCAA Regional Host ACC Candidates

- UNC

- UVA
- Miami

Is this the year the ACC wins the NCAA World Series?
Possible, but probably a long shot. Lots of good teams in the ACC, and some improving programs, but no real powerhouse. FSU is more fundamentally sound than I have seen them. They remind me a lot of UVA now. But I don't think they have the bullpen or the offense. IMHO UNC has the best chance if they get/stay healthy. Best pitching in the conference and decent offense. NC State has been a surprise, but I suspect they will fade down the stretch. Wasn't impressed with Miami. Ga Tech continues to do less with more than any team in the country. UVA is solid, but not nearly as good as the last couple of years. Clemson is surging, and could make a run if their pitching gets/stays healthy. Big question is whether they can keep hitting. The rest have no chance.

12 Conference W's got into ACC Conference Tourney

Those that are in:

Top 8 Teams
Florida State
North Carolina
NC State
Virginia
Miami
Clemson
Wake Forest
Ga Tech

Staying home (and *probably still practicing)
Va Tech*
Boston College
Maryland*
Duke

With 2 Tourney wins, WF and Ga Tech
will get into NCAA's.

Thus 8 ACC teams in NCAA Regionals.
SEC may get 10! Wow.
Hey Bear! :-)

ACC very strong, I think State will advance out of regionals, but question their pitching over the long term. (Tired arms I think) UNC seems to be the stronger of the two- but what about GaTech? Peaking at just the right time? Miami appears to be getting over injuries, and UVA I think they can advance too.
Congratulations to NC State and Florida State. FSU might win the College World Series. But, very seldom has a league folded like the ACC just folded in the NCAA regionals. As a Hokie, I am mortified we could not win even one game against a terrible UNC team to make it into the ACC tournament.

I am stunned by both Miami and Carolina. And now I have to watch Arizona host St. John's (St. John's -- I still can hardly say it) in a Super Regional. I never saw this coming.
