MY son is part of the 2012 class in South Florida. He is currently getting set of the 2011 season for high school and played as a sophmore last year. He has been on a solid summer and fall showcase team. He has been showcased through the normal Tournaments and so forth. We are now starting the showcases as offered by the colleges that he has on his list of attending.
My question is should a player send a letter along with his resume to the head coach prior to attending that showcase camp? I do not want to overstep nomral protocol but I felt that if the head coach and his staff had the resume on file prior to being there it might allow the coach to be on the look out.

He is a RHP pitcher 5'11, throws mid 80's but manages the plate. Latest college coach stated that he was impressed with his fluid motion and delivery style. A lot of positives came out of the last camp he attended. The only problem I see at this point and time is he is not in the 90's with his fast ball, not too worried as he has time to grow and fill out, besides you cannot live by the fast ball alone. His aresenal will keep a lot of batters off balance.

It's entirely appropriate for your son to drop one of the camp's coaches a note, telling him that he intends to be there and expressing his interest in the program. The resume, meanwhile, need not be elaborate. They'll be most interested in where and with whom he plays. The stats are virtually meaningless.

It sounds like he's on a great track. As I'm sure you know by now, a mid-90's fastball is not required to pitch for even the best college programs. The key to pitching a lot of college innings is the ability to throw effective strikes consistently.

Best of luck to your son!

Thank you very much. I thought I was on the right track.
We did the Resume at the onset of the summer showcasing and we have all the appropriate information.
We did not include any type of stats, in fact his resume speaks about the basic info.
Name, address, teams and coaches he has played for and current high school coach, current GPA, Clearing house number, Clubs and school organizations (National honor socitey, Student leadership, etc.) No Stats
I was impressed at the last camp they wanted transcripts at the sign in. I was not sure if the guys would even look at them but my son stated the coches reviewed them with him at the time. I thought pretty impressive to look at the gardes as well. That is one of his very strong points is the academics.

As you may or may not know, a true 90+ fastball is a rare thing. A mid to upper 80's fastball with command and control of a couple of pitches is more normal of what ends up being a D1 recruit. Keep your son working hard. It sounds like you are on the right track.
