For those who have been there and done this... how do you all balance the various tryout dates from Fall through the Winter for upcoming Summer teams?  It appears some teams will have tryouts in early Fall - while others don't have tryouts until February? Some have 1-day tryouts while others have multiple tryouts over days and months.  Just wondering how any of you balanced the schedule, tryouts and decisions without losing opportunities?

By staying with the same organization...  why would you want to go to a ton of tryouts?  If you are not currently with a summer team I suppose but if you get offers in the fall then just pick one.  If you are getting no offers could be time for a re-evaluation.  I have never been concerned about having my son on the best team.  A good team for sure and one that plays good competition.   And preferably an organization that carries through the high school years.  Once you have that what more do you need?

Better teams around here have tryouts in Fall so they can workout/practice together as group over winter months. IMO better to have tryouts on field and play some scrimmages then to see guys only try out indoors.

Also gives team more time together for fundraising if needed.

Look into schedules/travel of each team.

what is retainment like? Do they have a lot of players who only play with them one season and move on? Red flag.

If son is HS age ask how they can help w recruiting. due deligence and choose a few that would be good fits and good luck

Well you would be surprised some of the discontent that goes on as the kids move "up."  It is really hard to tell at 10u who should eventually be on the stud 17u team.  And organizations change over the years -- some get a little too big for their britches.  We have competing organizations at the HS age level.  The long standing/good reputation one got pants by their competitor who attracted many of the best players in the area as freshman.  A lot had to do with the change in management of the old organization -- kind of love hate with the new guys.
