I know that some here have been through similar experiences - I have a quick question re opinions on taking part in area code tryouts. My son suffered a knee injury 10 days ago - at first thought to be acl tear, but turns out to be mcl sprain and minor knee cap dislocation, he is in intial stages of therapy and will require a brace for a couple months.
The timeline for the tryouts is in all likelihood too close, and there are many variables in between now and then (10 days). He hasn't had much opportunity to showcase in front of others due to geography and economics. Curious if it is something that may be worth going to if he is 75-80% +. I wouldn't consider attending under that metric, and will confirm with therapist before deciding.
No doubt others have been to these things at less than 100%, speed is one of his strong points.
Should he mention the injury if he chooses to go, any other general advice is appreciated.

Where is the tryout?

We had similar situations. The end result is it is "too risky" to place your son where cannot "perform"
*showcase in not in my definition].
Perform is what your son desires to do.

If speed is his strong point, then he cannot perform. Maybe the pro scout who recommend your son can discuss with the scout in charge and allow a later tryout.

This was the reason for my 900 team. There are 70 MLB players who played on my 900 Team. Albert P., the LaRoche's, Jack Cust to name a few.

All advice is much appreciated, especially fron the founder. Syracuse and Allentown a few days later. We will get medical clearance re further complications for sure. In the event we can't go we will advise prior. I wouldnot identify him as a top prospect - but you never know, and he is a big Yankees fan.
I was also curious if the fact he didn't show well could influence future ratings. We went to a D1 college showcase 3 years ago for some fun and early exposure. I thought he hit pretty well - about average for many - but he was the only one with a wood bat. When he talked to the coach he had him as low- average hitting and didn't reference anything in his notes at the time about a wood bat. I know there a re different dynamics re money with many of these, but he was disapointed in the response. Another good learning experience though- never bring a knife to a gun fight, which is what he may be doing if he goes less than 90%.
unfortunately not that exotic, same continent as the US. The country that has virtually no HS baseball, and very limited (until recently) good baseball coaching training. Hockey still rules and many kids prefer to train in the summer instead of play ball. Politics are brutal at the local league level, but same as what I see in HS postings here.

As a father of a son who headed to Australia in 2008 with Mr. Williams, I can attest to the great experiences that my son enjoyed over three weeks of baseball traveling the continent. A fantastic experience with baseball and life experiences he will never forget, like chasing kangaroos on the golf course, lol!

Everyone who goes has a tremendous time and learns a lot about the game of baseball.
