It will be televised this Saturday evening on MLB Network, Nov. 5, 2011, at 5 p.m. MST which I believe is 8:00 PM EST. It is the All-Star game for the Arizona Fall League. Stars such as Garret Cole, Danny Hultzen, Mike Trout, and Bryce Harper among others will be in the game.

To get into the game, they took a poll of all MLB farm directors and scouting directors who voted the players on to the all-star rosters.

One kid from Mentor Ohio found an early Christmas present at his door via a letter inviting him into the game. We are thrilled there are other teams out there (besides the fine one he is with) who thought highly enough of him to cast their vote his way.

Congrats to your son ClevelandDad, I bet he is thrilled, and we know you are proud of his accomplishments.

Way to bury the lead CD Big Grin

Congrats, what a great achievement!

That's what I do best - bury the lead Smile

Seriously, thanks for the good wishes everyone!

They've added a little kicker this year to the game by giving out a $500 bonus to the players on the winning team. Now, to some of these first rounders in the game, I am sure $500 is not that much. To at least one player on the West team however, it is a whole lot of dough Smile
This is so great, I'm grinning ear to ear with tears in my eyes. Couldn't happen to a more deserving kid!

A few quotes from the article about the game:

"I'm pretty excited," Harper said. "It's going to be fun, entertaining for the fans, to be around the top guys from around the world, basically. It'll be an exciting day."

"We are privileged to offer elite players in a showcase game on national television," said AFL director Steve Cobb, who works with scouting and Minor League directors of every Major League organization to form the rosters, which have at least one representative from each system. "The rosters are stocked with first-round draft choices and 2011 Minor League all-stars."

Just wonderful to see Tyler recognized among this group of Rising Stars!!!

For you Harper fans, he went without a hit, walk, sac fly and two Ks. Watching his at bats, he seemed very aggressive, all his swings were out of the park swings. Hultzen looked real good, which is great for the Mariners, but hitters are what they are lacking. I bet Safeco could drop Fielder's home run totals in half, Seattle seems to deaden many big league bats. Just look at Beltre now that he is out of the rain.

He's also, I do beleive is the youngest. Just like many players, this fall season hasn't been kind to Harper, but it's coming together, that's the whole idea. I think that many people think that those first rounders don't need to adjust or mature. Just take a look at what happened to Gerrit Cole's outing.
My pitcher is playing in that league, it's incredibly tough, and he is older, the players you saw are the future MLB of tomorrow (some of actaully been there already), if for one moment you think it's easy playing in the AZFL situation, it is not.

FWIW, this league is more of a showcase league. Not all players play daily, you can loose consistancy with that.

The whole idea is that you are there, given the opportunity, one that most players will never get.

While I realized that you were just giving your observation of his performance, I also realize that you probably don't realyt understand what this is all about, so for that you get a pass.
FWIW - Harper is in a category all his own when it comes to talent and ability. He is currently tearing up the AFL and has been for at least the last two weeks. We asked my son about Harper last night on hsbbweb radio and he said he is the real deal. Described him as a man-child and said that as the youngest player out there, he has more power than any player in that league. I watched the game and felt they made great pitches against Harper. Not sure if Josh Hamilton would have connected on some of those pitches. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the pitcher.
