OK I finally found it. We were told they could call any time and here it is from the Coaches Handbook;

i. Telephone Calls After a Prospect has Signed
National Letter of Intent
An institution may telephone a prospect more than
once per week after a prospect has signed the National
Letter of Intent with that institution. For an institution not
utilizing the National Letter of Intent in a particular sport,
or for a prospect who is not eligible to sign a National
Letter of Intent (e.g., four-year college transfer), there
shall be no limit on the number of telephone calls to
a prospect, the prospect’s relatives or legal guardian(s)
by that institution after the calendar day on which the
prospect signs acceptance of the institution’s written
offer of admission and/or financial aid. [13.1.3.3.4]
good comments, I'll add another that may be helpful,

coaches do things differently, so whatever happens don't read too much into it.

bags, Andy played summer ball with former OSU standout Scott Lewis (lhp Indians).
after the NLI Scott heard from Bangtson only once before arriving on campus.

it takes some adjustment after all the "courtship" you've experienced recently

Thanks for the insight. I know several kids that have signed at the same school and they are all feeling kind of bummed that they have not heard anything from the coaches. It must be their style. I just hope it is not an indication of how little they will communicate when they get to campus in 276 days. (not that I'm counting or anything!)
.

Lets take Justbaseball's concept...

quote:
...They still have their teams to coach which is their main concern going forward.

Then lets take it a step further and get "real"...

In this "down time" (which really isn't), you gotta' figure that College coaches are currently:

Doing individual workouts with THIS season's team, looking at potential line up's, keeping the current team (35 Players) on track academcially, keeping the current team (35 players) on track emotionally, Keeping the current on track physically (35 players), meeting with the sports information department, troubleshooting and marketing holiday camps, reviewing '07 prospect information -thousands of letters, tapes, emails,..., talking to high school and travel team coaches, scouting opponents, Doing fall individual meetings with players, fundraising, public relations - local rubber chicken curcuit, keeping large program donors happy, meeting with the NCAA compliance department to stay withing current rules and reviewing new ones, urging the AD to give them more money, Meeting with their academics advisors regarding current players, Talking to professors, recruiting scouts for "scout day", setting up and planning Junior Days, Doing university business - mountains of reports in triplicate, budgeting, reassessing the fallout of the '06 early signing period, planning physical improvements, Pumpimg other coaches for information, assessing potential player transfers in and out, meetings, meetings and more meetings...

and dealing with a % of goofy parents who won't stop calling, (8-26 recuits and 35 current players)

and of course reading HSBBW relgiously....

And then if there is any time left over, there is family and personal life...

And that's just the stuff an idiot like me can think up. Cool

While it would be nice to expect lots of calls and personal attention, it simply isn't very realistic. The recruting period is a time when players get an inordinate amount of a programs attention.

After that it becomes the self responsibility of the player to do everything he can in the next 9 months to come to school in the fall ready to compete at the highest level possible, in the classroom and on the field.

The honeymoon is over....time to get to get back work. It is a brand new beginning and a new hill to climb.

Most of the coaches will continue to call signees once a week or periodically, and even more if that player could be drafted.

My son's pitching coach called every chance he got and during son's HS season he called him after ever game to discuss the results. He also made it his business to come watch him play a few times summer before he came to college. He also talked to Head Coach every now and then.
That communication was very important to my son. His friends who signed at other places never spoke to coaches much until they got to school.
Each coach has their own style, and there is nothing that says the signee can't call to touch base with his college coach.
