I would like to know, from a practical standpoint, what "really" happens after the early signing period Nov 8-15, 2006 and before the late signing period April 11, 2007.

Do most of the D1 programs fill their scholarship quotas during the early signing period leaving unsigned players out of luck?

Can college programs make a verbal offer between the early and late signing periods?

Is this when JUCO's make the majority of their offers?

What should a player do if not signed early?

Based on my small experience, the D1 schools do try and sign as many as possible during the early period. However, grades, the draft, transfers, injuries with many other scenarios, mean that almost every school still has needs to be filled in the spring. Heck, my son, a JC transfer, was called last week by a major D1 as they were looking to fill a hole for the 2007 season. So it is never too late.
