My son is a rh pitcher who is finishing his freshman year of high school. He will turn 16 in August and is about 6' tall and 150 pounds (in other words, thin). We have decided that the HF camp would be a good thing for him at some point (I don't want to debate the value of this camp in this thread). We are wondering whether there is any point to him attending the camp during the fall of his sophomore year? Should we wait until he has more experience and has filled out some?

I agrre with all the other poster's...I would like to add one thing...after my son's freshman year I took him a local showcase that was put on by a local baseball academy. It was a show case that was attend by only IVY league schools.

I did this for a couple of reasons:

1. I wanted him to get the experience of having coaches stand behind the catcher with guns pointing at him when I knew they would really not be looking at a rising soph. He did not know that so he got to feel the "pucker" effect when it really did not matter.

2. With just the ivies I know that there would not be a lot of coaches there so it was not overwhelming to him.

I think it helped him when he did start going to showcases he knew what to expect it was at least something he had been through before.

So I would recommend if you can find an inexpensive showcase in your area it might not be a bad idea to let him get one in his system before they start to count.
Our son went to HF and to an Ivy showcase (similar to the one dad43's son attended)the summer after sophomore year and got very good results from both. The coaches came to watch pretty faithfully when he played at events in the fall of junior year, probably because they had seen him before and were interested (and he had expressed his interest in them).
