basemagic ,
I start athletes on weight-training programs
at 14 years of age or older . I came up with
this age because most 14 year olds are starting
high school and they are either in a weight-
training class or doing summer conditioning at
there school . So with this in mind , I wanted
to make sure that young athletes were doing all
of their lifts with good technique , with a
good understanding of what they were doing and
why . Before they turn 14 years of age I have
athletes doing bodyweight exercises , agility
training and form running . This is the time to
make them better athletes and more confident
young men and women ,

I like to be different.
When the coach of my 7 year old son's little league team made my son into a pitcher I started him on a "protective" weight program that included light controlled leg, torsoe and upper body excercises.
The results were very good and I stuck with the program for the rest of his LL career.
He did Bench press at 35lbs, half squats at the same weight to start, some med ball throws and Rotator cuff work. By the time he was 11 he could do 75lb reps in Bench and squats.
He never suffered a throwing arm injury or any joint injuries while on this program.
I think that weights, properly monitored with the goal as muscle tone not bulk or big numbers can help at ant level.

Rollerman ,
You must do whatever you think is in the best interset of your son , and if you felt comfortable starting him at 7 years of age was in his best interest , that what you needed to do . I am very happy that he stayed healthy over his career . I still feel very comfortable about a general starting point being 14 years of age , but like yours , this is just my opinion . I do believe in doing other things such as agility , flexibilty , bodyweight weight-training , form running , hand-eye coordination training , and anything else that will help him become a better athlete , and that he enjoys doing ,
Best Wishes ,
Kerry
