No North vs. South Allstar game this year folks. The grounds crew at the Hutsville Stars stadium refussed to put the tarp on the field when they had plenty of hands willing to help out. So after the rain, no attempt to do any field work resulted in telling all the kids to go home who traveled from all over the state to participate in this event. Many coaches and scouts who traveled from allover even out of state to evaluate the players and possibly recruit certain guys basically wasted a trip. I personally thought the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) did a poor job of promoting the baseball event in the first place. That should be the main goal of the organization (promote Alabama High School Athletes). That doesn't seem to be the case though. The AHSAA actually has a rule in place that doesn't allow a basebll player to go workout for a college team in the spring semester. The leadership in the AHSAA (Steve Savareese and Steve Bailey) has totally missed it. College coaches first off don't have the budget nor the time to travel all over the state and see every high school team in every town. Most colleges are going thru budget cuts as it is, and travel allways takes a cut during these tuff times. But in our state a college coach can't tell a high school coach to send over all of his seniors for a "free" workout with his team. The kids are getting penalized and many of them are not getting an opportunity to play at the next level because the college coaches aren't able to see them enough. We may have too many old football coaches in the front office for the AHSAA, because it is very evident that baseball is not a concern for these guys. Back to the Allstar game - If I am the AHSAA and I'm renting the Stars Stadium, I'm going to have the grounds crew tarp the field then make a decision after its done raining. But again, it appeared that baseball was not very high on the AHSAA's list. I can guarantee you the football game won't ever get rained out during the allstar week. AHSSA = JOKE!
