hello everybody,

been a lurker on this site for many years now and it has been a valuable tool in my baseball career.

I was recently approached by my college coach asking me how I would feel about playing summer baseball next year in Alaska for the Anchorage Bucs. Being from the east coast, I do not know much about the ABL. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this league/team, and could offer any and all insight(competition, travel, overall experience etc).

Thanks for everyones help in advance and for the advice over the past few years

ABL has a traditionally good reputation. Many very good college players have gone through that league. There is no better place in America to spend a summer than in AK IMO.

But each team is run locally (by town folks) and the experience can be vastly different...team by team. My son was not on the Bucs, so I cannot help you much more than that.

I played up in Alaska in 2009. That's actually where I was signed out of. I played for the anchorage glacier pilots. Anchorage is a great city. The competition is great. I'd high recommend you go there. For transportation they actually have us all cars for the summer. We had host families of course. The field in anchorage is fully turfed now so that's good. Alaska was probably the bet summer ball experience I had. I highly recommend it and good luck kid.
