I am not looking to create any drama on this topic. However i have to admit being confused.

So if the beach coaches pick a player of the year, doesn't that mean that player had the best season compared to every other player in the beach district?

So how can 4 other beach players be 1st team region and poy be 2nd team?

And in this case the poy was for utility, 1b,of,p...so that means for all region he lost out not for 1 position but for 3!

Can anyone improve my thinking and/or explain how this makes any sense?
Is this just a wierd situation or is this routine?
Pirates21,

See if this helps your understanding. Each of the POYs from the 4 districts are considered for Region POY. No one else can be considered for Region POY. Each of the First Team Utility players compete for the First Team Region Utility player but not for first base, outfield, etc. Only those players designated as First Team First Base for the four districts compete for the Region First Team First Base position. So it can be important as to for what position a player was recognized as First Team District. That also is why sometimes a player is recognized in more than one category for First Team district. (Not a defense of the system, just an explanation.)
It's like music awards a guy losing Male entertainer of the year, but winning entertainer of the year.

Regional selections are, for the most part, a joke at best. For example, how do Peninsula District coaches assess the play of Beach, Eastern or Southeastern District players for the 2012 season without having seen them play during the season? Oh they may have seen a few play in a game, but certainly not over the course of the spring season. Of course the same can be said for Beach, Eastern and Southeastern coaches assessing players outside of their districts as well. But of course for some of these players, and their parents, this selection is very important because it will be the culmination of their baseball careers.

I'd imagine you could take that a step further and apply the same logic towards the All-State selections too.
