What an awesome day to prove how baseball is absolutely THE American sport.

After two long days of driving and moving my son into the University of Louisville, we caught a Louisville Bats AAA game at Louisville Slugger Field.

Good game, beautiful park, very friendly people, fireworks, sweet double play in the 8th, a home run and the enjoyment of listening to a dad sitting next to me teach his young son the game as it went along.

But the greatest part was watching baseball on July Fourth and being treated to some truly inspiring moments.

The Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America were both sung by a wonderful young man from Louisville named Patrick Henry Hughes, who is in a wheelchair and, if I remember correctly, has a connection with the University of Louisville Marching Band.

There was also Heroes Of The Diamond

It's a baseball team made up of ballplayers and a bunch of former servicemen who are on a barnstorming tour of the country playing games and showing off a US Flag the flew over the 9/11 site the day President Bush made his famous speech from atop the rubble. They actually let us touch the flag and they couldn't have been a more gracious bunch of guys.

I felt privileged to meet these men and touch this historic flag. And I feel privileged to live in this awesome country.

papi sounds like you had a great day that truly described what it means to be an American. I bet that was truly amazing being around the Heroes of the Diamond and will be a lifelong memory.

Your son is going to love Louisville and the city and I wish him the best while he is there. I used to live about an hour outside of the city and loved going into it.

Everyone should check out Patrick Hughes. His story is amazing and his talent for music is awe inspiring when you look at the obstacles he's had to overcome. Plus his dad is a true hero for what he has done for his son.

By the way - don't worry about the apple pie. I made sure to look after your share. It was well taken care of. Big Grin
