The June 2004 Virginian Pilot issue announcing (junior) Justin Upton as the Tidewater Player of the Year in baseball mentioned that he was the third junior to receive the award, that Jason Dubois (1996) and Kurt Isenberg (1999) were the previous two. This is what was found fairly quickly in the Pilot archives:

2009 Chris Taylor Cox Sr.
2008 Gary Ward Hickory Sr.
2007 Neil Ramirez Kempsville Sr.
2006 Frank Berry First Colonial Sr.
2005 Justin Upton Great Bridge Sr.
2004 Justin Upton Great Bridge Jr.
2003
2002 B.J. Upton Sr.
2001 David Wright Hickory Sr.
2000
1999 Kurt Isenberg First Colonial Jr.
1998
1997
1996 Jason Dubois Cox Jr.

Did not quickly find anything that said how far back the All Tidewater awards go.
Question.... why on every "All" team thats been put out so far, is Justin Lee the first team Secondbaseman? Dont get me wrong, im not saying he's not deserving of being on that team, but he is a shortstop. GB might claim he played "enough" second base, but he is a SHORTSTOP. Lee is a great ballplayer, i'd love for him to play for my team, but im sure theres a real secondbase man out there deserving the accolades.
bballday, don't know the answer to your question (although I have some guesses).

I did notice, however, that several underclassmen were picked. In addition to the player of the year, Nick Thompson, who is a junior, Garrett Brooks is a sophomore, and Alex Lambert, Justin Lee, Josh Mason, Shawn Morimando and Killian Strenn are juniors.

On the second team, four juniors (Stephen Butt, Michael Curry, David Dean and Scott Hurrell) made it.

Congratulations to some of the All Tidewater Team for making the Virginia Preps 2010 AAA All-State Baseball Team - Cody Cox (Grassfield) as a pitcher and Nick Thompson (Western Branch) as a DH. Brian Bashara (Maury) and Shawn Morimando (Ocean Lakes) were honorable mentions at utility and pitcher respectively.

bballday, I hope you are able to take some solace in the above.
