He's eligible....after some research I found this little known rule about Junior College baseball:

Student athletes are permitted to participate in professional baseball for no more than 90 days at a level no higher than Class A. If this can be confirmed by the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, the student-athlete shall be eligible to compete in baseball at an NJCAA member college.

Um, you might want to got to class once in a while also.

Almonte would be comfortable with that, I seam to remember them investigating weather he attended classes in high school while in NY.

Between explaining to the kids about what was wrong with what he did to Little League and the questions about his high school career between Florida and New York, it is amazing he is still in the game.

Almonte decided to take his chances in the independent Frontier League, signing with the Southern Illinois Miners in Marion, Ill., last spring. Manager Mike Pinto released him after six starts due to control problems. Almonte posted a 0-1 record with a 5.28 ERA and issued 19 walks in 30 2/3 innings.

He played this summer in the Independent Frontier League............not well.....and not long.......

was released within a few weeks..... I saw one of his outings and although I do not critique HS players, I saw nothing outstanding..........I certainly did not see any where near the velocitys mentioned in the BA article.....
