co2013 and CELDDAD,

Typically folks post items about colleges in the "Ask About Colleges" forum. You can search that forum for information about these schools.

Additionally, there is a poster named "GoingWithThePitch" who wrote a book about his college baseball experience at Binghampton called: "Going with the Pitch - Adjusting to College Athletics". He played for Binghampton a few years ago and it is a good read. I haven't seen him post here in a while but I know he was eager to start another book when I spoke with him last. BTW - If your son is seriously considering college baseball, his book is a great of what to expect, and not expect.

My son's college plays both Binghampton and Albany in mid-week games and they are typically competitive games. So I would judge the American East to be somewhat at the middle to bottom of D1 along with my son's team. Obviously, Stony Brook is the class of the conference with a CWS appearance last year. WarrenNolan.com has the America East conference ranked 26 out of 32 for D1 in 2011.

Thanks, LJ for info. Birdman, not sure they are kings, but I think they can compete with anyone in the northeast with success. They play you guys 4 games this year.

In my son's first 2 years, they hammered us the 3 times we played them. They are looking to turn it around this year! Hopefully it is a little different playing them in a weekend series.

FWIW... A year ago, I never even heard of Binghamton University and the American East, but last weekend we had my son's official visit to Binghamton. The more I see and learn, The happier I am with my son's decision. My son really liked the coaches from the first time they met, the facilities are much better then we imagined and the school is very good academically.

A HS teamate of my son was a freshman at Albany last year and is very happy with his decision.

American East baseball seems to be getting better and better each year with wins in the regionals the last three years and Stony Brook's run to Omaha last year. Maybe it's just blind optimism from a naive parent, but it seems like a good option.
