My kid wants to play on american legions baseball team after high school ball this summer, is this a showcase team do the scouts come out to them games, being he's going to be a senior next year he needs to keep playing ball.if he signs with this team is he stuck with this team only, and is not aloud to sign up with any other teams or showcase's or any pro tryouts. it seem like a lot of rules to be on this team, he likes to play ball and may wants to play on other teams, will it be ok. Can't answer all of these questions, but I do know that American Legion has strict boundaries - you live here, you play here. Good teams/good leagues will attract attention, bad ones probably won't. Our Legion team won our league championship [regular season plus playoffs = total 25 games] plus 3 more in the regional tournament = 28 games. Boyertown, who won the PA state 'ship and finished 3rd [I think] in the nation, ended up something like 55-6. Warringotn POst [ near us, different league] played over 40 games. I think it comes down to yo are stuck with the team who's territory you reside in. Hopefully they have a good coach, who plays lots of games, tournaments, etc. We don't [and I'm one of the coaches!!!!] Against Legion rules, our coaches let some of our guys [especially the younger ones] play on other travel teams, with us being the priority if needed. Not everyone is like that, and doesn't have to be. Know what you are getting into before you sign. If he is a junior, shouldn't he have already been playing Legion?? We had 4-5 sophs [16 YO] starting last yr
I'll join the TRHit fan club too. (I hate to be left out.)

There are some quality travel teams such as the Suth Troy Dodgers and the Bayside Yankees that you should look into for the summer if your son is able to play at that level.

Having known TR and his fall team for many years, I'd suggest highly that you go to one of his showcases and hope to make his fall team. Tom does a great job helping his players get college offers.
Legion baseball rules are strictly enforced...

In example, my son played legion ball last summer with some of the freshmen players of his college team in the 18U league.

In the championship tournament and after we had won the championship, and after one of our pitchers had pitched his guts out, 12 innings, and beat one of the two top teams in the state we were disqualified because one of our players didn't turn in his birth certificate (he would have qualified if he had) and the coach decided to use one of the other players BD's to let this kid play...it was a stupid act, but my advice, if you play legion ball know the rules and follow them.

While there is a lot of exposure gained in playing for a travel team such as TR's, you should also consider costs. Legion costs very little, while traveling teams can be extremely expensive (transportation, hotels, tournament fees, etc.), and this factor should not be overlooked. There was a lengthy thread about this very subject last summmer:
