Mid-Atlantic (VA). We've seen more college/pro scouts at Legion games than I ever saw at the numerous travel (AAU/USSSA) tournaments that my son's travel team participated in. But to be fair, the scouts were only there to see one player - the ace pitcher - a 17 yr old throwing at 91-92 mph.
In our area, a summer high school coaches league formed a couple of years ago and basically, the top players from differennt schools in the area who have not yet graduated are playing for these teams, leaving the current HS graduates and age-eligible college freshman left for sr legion ball. My guess is the jr legion took a big hit from the HS coaches league, but this is the way they're going these days I suppose.

I guess the one positive that comes out of it are those HS players who got shut out of legion ball due to politics, the secretive nature of legion rosters and tryouts, daddyball or whatever have the opportunity that they wouldn't have had without the HS coaches league starting up. If I'm not mistaken, that's a part of the reason the HS coaches league started up in the first place.

My son played USSSA until age fifteen. I was not aware USSSA promoted showcase events. His 17/18U team never participated in a USSSA event. I've seen USSSA 18U non showcase events advertised.
