Chesapeake cruises into World Series

Reading Eagle

Outside of a scare in the tournament opener against host West Lawn, Chesapeake cruised to the Mid-Atlantic Regional title.

The Virginia state champs sealed their bid to the Legion World Series with a 6-2 win over Brooklawn in the championship game Monday at Owls Field.

Jordan Adair pitched seven solid innings, allowing just two hits - both in Brooklawn's two-run first. After that, the Brookers were shut down.

Adair followed with six hitless innings and struck out six, and Josh Carter and Cody Cox each did not allow a hit in their respective innings of relief.

Matt Dickason, who batted .636 (14-for-22) for the tournament, was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Monday.

He and Leland Clemmons, who was 2-for-4 with a double, scored in Chesapeake's three-run first when Dean Ali tripled to left field.

Ali scored on a groundout to give Chesapeake a 3-2 lead, more than enough for Adair to work with.

Chesapeake scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to keep Brooklawn, a 12-time regional champ, from forcing a 15th game in the tournament.

The Legion World Series begins Friday.
