I just saw this:
June 8, 2004
Dave Anderson, who gave up his position as the manager of the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A baseball club to return to his alma mater four years ago, has resigned effective at the conclusion of the current contract period which ends on June 30. Anderson has indicated that he will return to professional baseball.
"We would like to thank Coach Anderson for loyal and dedicated service to the University of Memphis and wish him the best in his future endeavors," said U of M Athletic Director R.C. Johnson. "He gave up his position in professional baseball to return to Memphis and help build the baseball program and we are very grateful for his efforts both on and off the field".
Anderson, who was an All-American shortstop for the U of M, became the Tigers head coach in fall of 2000. His first team opened the 2001 season with a six-game winning streak and completed the campaign with a 32-24 record and qualified for the Conference USA Tournament. During the 2004 season, Memphis again posted a winning record and participated in the C-USA Baseball Championship in Houston, Texas. The Tigers defeated third seeded Southern Miss in the opening round and battled UAB and Southern Miss before being eliminated.
Over his four-year tenure, Anderson's teams compiled an overall record of 104 -116 and had 10 players selected in the Major League Draft. He was also instrumental in raising funds to renovate the Tiger baseball locker room and for the leveling and resodding of the playing surface at Nat Buring Field.
A national search for a new baseball coach will begin immediately. Associate Athletic Director Bill Lofton will chair the search committee, which will be made of Associate Athletic Director Bob Winn, as well as others.
