I have to brag. ASU won the Lone Star Conference Tournament championship over Abilene Christian today at ACU. This is only the 3rd year of the baseball program. They had to defeat ACU twice for the championship and won 8-2 last night on a brilliant pitching performance by MMWS Jr. Then won the final today 3-1.

They will move on to play in the South Central Regional next weekend. I am sure ACU will also be there and wish them luck (except against ASU).

Awesome news, ASRUF! The program continues to emerge and has landed a few of this area's fine senior athletes -- Clayton Farhat and Travis Lites. Congratulations to Coach Brooks, Coach Smith, and the rest of the Rams staff --- and to Michael Gunter for a big win this week to compliment a fine season. Kudos as well to local athletes Matt Lenderman and Christopher Odem! Gunter and Lenderman were named to the All-LSC South Division 1st team. It's awesome to see the local kids have success at the next level. Smile
Congrats to ASU! They've had a great year. I know they had a great year last year too, but were shut out of post-season play, unfairly in my opinion. Beating ACU twice at their place is pretty darn good. I notice that ACU's Trey Watten of Coppell won one of the tournament games with some shut-out pitching and also made MVP for the conference. I'm not sure if ACU is in the play-offs. Do you know for sure they are?
The South Central Region will be announced on Sunday. The only teams currently in are West Florida, ASU (both won their conference tournaments) and St Edwards (regular season champ for the Heartland Conference.

Based on the latest polls, the other 3 should be Ouachita Baptist, ACU, and Delta State; but the NCAA has been known to do strange things when they select at large teams.

ACU and ASU have a very strong rivalry and this year ASU got the better end of it. They won 4 of 6 games at ACU. Also, ACU only lost 5 games at home this year and 4 were to ASU.

I was very impressed with Trey Watten. He is a very talented pitcher as well as position player. Another player from the Dallas area, Jordan Schmitt also has been impressive with them.

As I mentioned above, I hope ACU is in the regional also. It would be great to meet them again in the Championship game.
Ok-here we go-this is my first post after watching this blog for a month or so. Since people think I am someone who I am not I was advised not to post. Well, shoot, I don't care anymore because this is a great exchange of information, ideas etc..
My log-on is tcwatt--original right?-stands for Trey and Cameron Watten.
Since it is my first post, I will start with a softball. I watched the ACU-ASU series on the webcam. Man, ASU is a good team. My wife, Rene and I, went out for the 4 game series over Easter against ASU. We, ACU, pounded them on Friday, got snowed out on Saturday and ASU came back on Sunday and took 2 straight. They actually went all the way back to San Angelo and then came back on Easter.
I agree with ASU fan. They have a well coached, clutch team. I am amazed this is only their 3rd year. We went out for the series last year in SA. Their stadium is awesome.
They will do well in the Regionals. If we don't get lucky and get a bid I will be rooting for them. One amazing thing about this series--the pitcher (sorry forget his name) who pitched on Tuesday had already thrown 7 innings the night before. How tough is that.
I was really sad for our team based on their record this year (47-13) but hey, we got beat fair and square. Go Rams--(unless they play ACU!!)
I am going to post on some other stuff in a minute.

Hey TCWatt,

That is indeed awesome news regarding Trey! And the Cameron as well. They must have gotten their BB talent from Rene or are they really getting private lessons from our HS coach, Williams. I'll track the Cowboys thru the playoffs as well. Too bad our Colleville boys dogged it.
Ok-seriously last post for a while.
ASU-you are right-Jordon Schmidt is the REAL deal. He is one of the best catchers, not to mention all around players, I have ever seen. Even better--he is a great kid!
Expo-don't know who you are but guess you are with Colleyville. Dog it? Holy smoke-they have a young team and did great in a really tough district. Good times ahead. FYI- when we played you all in the Grapevine tournament in that windstorm, I got re-acquainted with a good friend and old RLT team mate-Ronnie Gilbreath. If you know him and he tries to downplay his baseball abilities and pitching knowledge--all I have to say is-if you think Beaven is good (and he is of course-good Tiger friends)you should have seen Ronnie. Very similar dominance. I played 3rd base at RLT. When he was pitching it was boring-bottom line-you can't hit what you can't see!! Good luck
TCWatt,

Congratulations to TW on the awards. Very good ball player and appears to be a good "kid" from what I've seen/heard. I probably officiated some games he was in during HS/summer, but I can't remember. I've got a good memory, it just doesn't last long.

Easter weekend, Friday evening, dang cold, TW and MMWS Jr. hooked up to battle one game. Both threw complete games, MMWS Jr. allowed only one run, but TW allowed none. That's part of the reason we were "banned" from attending. Every game we went to MMWS Jr. lost. Dang the baseball gods!!!!!

Two very good teams, with a lot of competitors, the way it should be.

Again, congrats to TW and hope y'all get a bid.

Got to get ready to head back to Tyler for McKinney v. Longview Pine Tree, game 2.
Yeah-that was as cold as I have ever been. In fact, I usually stand up during the games-nerves-but I lasted about 5 minutes and then was neck deep in the sleeping bag. Could not believe the snow the next day.
Also, Billy Leonard, one of my partners in this office is a Lion dad-Nate/football. Told me today where you all were playing. Good Luck
PS-Come watch the games on the web with me-I have basically been banned too. Hope to meet you in Arkadelphia-fingers crossed.
No game. There was only one shower in east Texas, and it was right over Tyler. It quit raining, we got dressed, went out and the TJC coach (I think) met us at the plate and said it was too wet to play. We changed our clothes and headed home. Let's see....... Take off of work early, leave the house at 3:30, get home at 10:00, and will make a grand total of $12. Who wouldn't want to do this?????

Games at Boyd, starting at noon. LPT is home team for both games.

TC,
Ah, the truth comes out. That boy of his is right on line, too! And he is only a sophomore. Wink

They should have just played at Alford tomorrow.

Persistent little cuss, isn't he?

Yeah, Ronnie, are you out there?? PAW-FECT, you are from Colleyville...do you know Ronnie?
PD,
Last year when Northwest was in 4A, I felt like Alford Field was my second home. Not only did we play the district games there, we also played some post-season games there. Then, during summer ball, we returned over and over again. It's a great setup. I wonder if that was MMWS beneath the bleachers, curled up in a ball, enveloped by a blanket, early one Saturday morning?

Well now that we are all out of the closet ....yes I know the dude too....He is my sons pitching coach and I have been sleeping with him the last 25 years. Eek Smile He gives me a good discount on the lessons. I have an exclusive contract with him ....so no one get any ideas.

TCWATT---never got to see Ronnie in HS but spent 8 great years watching him on the hill. Thanks for your memory. We are following Trey and Camerson. Good Luck
WOW!! Eek

Watten, Ronnie, and Jub-Jub in the same high school! That had to be fun!

I don't want any lessons if that is the price... Big Grin

Thanks-but we had our chance (actually 2 of them!!) More sorry for Britt as this is only the second time in his career at ACU that he did not make it to Regionals and, ironically, this was his best season ever-oh well-clears our hectic schedule a bit.
Yes, slipped that in as I know there are posters who know him. He is very excited. I am hoping to get up there and see him but I have a wedding (oldest daughter) to get ready for.
We are very blessed-all fun stuff!!
