Batter strikes out on ball that bounces in the dirt and off the catcher down the first baseline. The batter, out of the box accidently kicks the ball on his way to first. What is the call? Really happened but catcher got him out anyway....Just curious. Interference???
To our military men, women and families - You are all awesome - that flag is yours and I thank you for the opportunity for giving me the honor of removing my cap prior to every baseball game I see.

well, as you know there are no "do overs" in baseball. If I call dead ball, (rightly or wrongly) its just that...a dead ball. Batter out. And be prepared to take your lumps.

on the question of reversing calls, I know there is a trend now to "getting it right" and I am in favor of that. But if I have a play and there is some possibility of my angle being wrong or a rule award mix up, then I will go to my partner before I make a call....reversing a call always causes problems....making the right call the first time (even delayed) is preferrable.

no problem...at times we umpires have to take our lumps when we blow a call....trying to cover it or invent a solution is always worse...

But it happens to the best and worst of us...Last night at my sons doubleheader a NCAA Umpire punched out a batter on strike 2 and told another runner to go to first on ball 3.....Fans and coaches were amused but brutal....It happens...(meaning I've been there....done that)
