My son was just released from the Astros. This was his third season and should have been slated to be in high A ball. During spring they had him and one other kid from last years team join the Double A team to work out and throw agianst the triple A club. he had a great spring throwing against the Triple A and Single A teams not giving up a earned run.

We all thought he may jump high A and land with the Double A team based on the spring he was having. Then he was told it was a numbers game and no room for him. Too many guys with larger contracts they had to find room for. His agent has sent a fax to all the teams about him hoping to get an opportunity. His agent told him to be patient since there are so many other guys in the same situtation.

Any one out there have any ideas in terms of MLB tryouts or Independent tryouts. He is not ready to call it quits and feels he has pretty good velocity 91-94mph along with three other good pitches.

My son's friend said he knew he might be in trouble when he was asked to play in a level above where he should have begun. Teams very rarely have players skip a level unless they are close to MLB.

Hang in there, his agent has begun the process. Good luck.
I'm sorry to hear about your son's release. I wish him the best and hope he will find a new home soon.

I seem to recall in the book Harvard Boys, the author (player) was on the phone to many independent clubs when he was released. Since your son has an agent, I suppose he is doing all the legwork for him. It is probably a very busy time for agents. I don't know if your son should be assisting him in finding a place to play. Is that allowed?
