A situation occurred last night in one of our games that I'm not sure I've seen discussed before. It caused a great deal of confusion on the part of the umpires and the two coaches. It involves the DH position and the need to place him on defense to cover for another player who became sick and had to pulled from the game.
Situation:
Joe - Catcher
Bill - DH for Catcher
Jim - SS
Jim became sick and had to be removed from the game. With no bench players available (we are down to 9 players total at this point) except for the DH, I was forced to put the DH on defense (RF) and move the RF to SS. At this point I put the Catcher in the batting lineup in the slot vacated by the SS who was pulled from the game.
Should this situation actually result in a forfeit since I was not able to sub somebody else in to the game for the SS?
