So headfirst honor roll was filled when I tried to sign up. I went about the process a little late and year its all full. First part of the question, are any other showcases for top academic schools similar to headfirst honor roll. I know perfect game's has already passed so I am kinda sprawling now... I've made contact with some schools and am attending Harvard's camp forsure in August, but still need some other options.

Secondly, I have to ask about a school in my area. I am from Canada and I know a couple schools in my area that offer college baseball (CCBC) but actually do not take up any years of elegibility. The ones I am looking at are not nearly as strong as UBC (which does take up eligibility in NAIA), but play a low-mid D3 level of ball. Being a young 2010 graduate (Canadians start school earlier), could I attend one of these schools and then go to some of the showcases next year as still technically a 2011 graduate. Then I would get some classes done, be similar age to the other participants, grow a bit and start right away. Is that something I should look into or if I did that would schools right me off when I attended showcases next year?

My guess is he forgot to tell anyone about attending a college. I have seen guys do that. Said they worked during the period. There is no easy way to check up on this. UBC is a great school. My son was recruited by them and had a small scholarship offer which was half of the total cost of attending. It is a great location and I was interested but my son wasn't. They emailed every year checking to see if he was ready to come back.

Any recommendations on how to get a player seen without breaking the bank?

Good question Pat!

If you can find MLB/pro tryouts in your area, they are usually free and if your son impresses can get his name out there to college coaches.

Here were a couple of threads that caught my attention awhile back on low-cost recruiting:

shortstopmom provided her low-cost tips for exposure. It was excellent advice imho.

Pat I don't think you should short change on travel teams. Find the best one you can afford or that fits your budget. We didn't do any showcases. Used a DVD, email and telephone campaign. We also looked at a broad range of schools from D1 JCs to top tier D1 4yrs. Make a list of target schools and start contacting them. It is important to know your son's goals. BB may not be his ultimate goal.
We also negotiated team fees. The most important thing is keep the grades up.
