From a player's perspective and from a fan's perspective I believe this year will be tough for LHS.
We lack the leadership from an upperclassman because there are only 2 returning upperclassmen, only one who started. Numerous Juniors( I believe 4) were overlooked because the underclassmen were suppose to be more talented and deserved the spots over the players who started JV the year beforehand. 1 player in particular played played 8th grade baseball(was cut from JV) and one did not play at all his 8th grade year. I believe 4 others were in a reserved role during there 8th grade year on JV because they didn't produce, however the varsity coaching staff saw something in these players and bumped 2 sophomores to JV, giving Varsity roster spots to numerous freshman.
After last years disappointing season where numerous freshman did not produce, I believe many Juniors have a chance to step into a starting role, but how can they take over a leadership position that they weren't priviledged enough to have last year? That's where I believe we will have a problem.
I believe we lack the pitching to be a solid team. Only 1 returning pitcher from last years Varsity team will be on the roster(Hunter Sargent), who is struggling with elbow problems right now. 3 Juniors from last year who pitched on JV will possibly be given an opportunity(Sawyer Bowen, Dillon Wilburn, and Patrick Farmer) ontop of 3 other sophomores who have no pitching experience except in Summer baseball. None of these 3 Junior pitchers are overpowering, but can give solid innings if asked upon to do so.
Hitting is average at best. If you know how the team was last season, they had numerous games with only 1 or 2 hits in a game, not to mention some of the players who did this were seniors. The JV wasn't much better honestly.
I don't want to go into great description on other situations like attitudes, the suspension of the players last year for the drinking incident, etc. but I just don't see us finishing higher than 3rd this year.
Just being honest.
