Don't take it personally, Blake. I think the idea of kids playing during the hs season has always just been taboo. Even the top clubs won't have anything to do with their summer guys until their respective hs teams are completely done with their seasons. I'll add that most quality hs coaches are not factoring in any extra activity on the part of their players during the season either.
Don't sweat it Blake some people just don't get it. I don't think a top jv or varsity starter would be looking to play any extra. I guess everyone that is dogging you has a son headed to a d1 program. I see plenty of kids in our program that could start at a lot of other schools and they currently get little to no playing time. I would think there are a lot under classmen that would love some playing time right now. They could break an ankle in practice just as easily as they could in a game.
Got to agree with Panther on this one. As long as I can recall even back to the 1970's a player in high school was prohibited by their coaches to play on another team or another sport while in season. I would encourage any parent or player following this discussion to speak to thier coach first before participating. I would really be interested in hearing from those individuals who are permitted to do this activity. It would just prove that times continue to change.
Blake- I think it is more of you not taking "it" serious enough. Shows a lack of respect you have for high school coaches and their programs.

If I had to guess, you are trying to "make a living" in the "select" (watered-down term, I know) world of baseball. You prob give a ton of lessons and are now trying to get something going in the "team/league" buisness.

There is no way you are affiliated with any of the top/most respected programs in Texas. Those guys that run those programs know most of the h.s. coaches in their recruiting area and would never allow one of thier own to coach high school players in the middle of thier high school season.

I must of not seen all of your earlier reply.... what "high-school aged" league is going on right now? One you put together?
If a kid is not getting playing time, a coach that wants a kid to develop wouldn't have a problem with the kid playing somewhere to get better? Why would a coach care more about his program than a kid developing? Now if the kid actually plays in games; then he would have no business playing in this league.

The kids should also know if they are in violation of the coaches rules. If they say no, the answer is no. Hopefully a coach wouldn't limit a kid like that.

I tend to recognize that asking a player to participate in a game or league other than the present high school team is risky and somewhat disrespectful. Can the same thing be said for events or venues asking a player to attend conflicting with a summer schedule?

What Summer schedule are you referring to?

Any summer teams schedule put forth.
We generally carry enough on our high school Summer rosters. So if a couple of players are missing week to week, we can still compete.
There are always some conflicts with our mid-week DH's for some players. If their respective high school coach insists that they play in the high school Summer league, with the school team, then we suggest that they do what he says, that simple.

Interesting view point. What if the summer coach insists on full participation with his schedule? Is it insulting for another team or event to invite that player knowing he plays summer baseball for a team?
At least im getting more people with a clue talking now but hey bgj I dont even do lessons and I actually dont make any money off the league all costs are split up but anyway my coach encouraged us to play as much as we could at Rowlett a powerhouse year after year but hey you know it all and anyways i am looking for one more for sat lol 469-576-8896

I can not speak for other programs, with us, it usually is ok. As long as it does not leave the team short handed.

Wonder if high school coaches feel the same way?
