SJU is a bad situation that could improve rapidly. They currently have one of the worst facilities (a local town park) in D1, located twenty-five miles from the campus. The team was 9-18/18-34 last year finishing near the bottom on the A10.

The good news is the last coach started building a foundation that could yield a positive future. A new facility will be built near campus. The new facility will improve recruiting. The new coach has a great reputation as an assistant. He's a potential rising star. If he turns SJU around, hang a star on him.

With a son that's a 2011, I'm watching how this situation develops. I don't know anything about Pitt you can't get off the website.

The new coach at SJU is Fritz Hamburg, former Army Associate Head Coach and pitching coach. Fritz was the NCAA assistant of the year in 2007. My son pitched for him last year and has nothing but over the top great things to say about him. I always found him to be a great guy. He honestly cares deeply for his players and is fun to be around. I doubt he would leave West Point for SJU without some promises from the administration about support for baseball and baseball facilities.
My son played for Coach Hamburg when he was an assistant at New Mexico State---he raved about him---ironic note: Joe Godri, Head Coach at Villanove was an assistanmt at NMSU when Coach Hamburg was there

Pittsburg- Coach Jordano is another great guy who knows his baseball--a pitcher from our program is there and has nothing bad to say about coach--they are up and coming in the Big East

SJU

has spent heavily on campus facilities during the last 5-6 years.

On off days, in the fall, they use Haverford's facility. I'm told they will have a new on-campus location very soon (fall 2009?).
A few blocks on the other side of City Line Avenue was the upper school for Episcopal Academy (Henderson/Duke and Ellington/UNC are grads). EA just moved to consolidate lower and upper campuses. SJU is taking over the campus. A baseball facility will be built there.
