* Speed track Radar Gun registers speeds up to about 150 mph or 199 kilometers per hour
* Optional Speedtrac AC Adapter 110V
* Increased Range
* Faster Processing Speed
* New Graphics
* Produced in the USA

Speedtrac Speed Sport Radar Gun utilizes Doppler radar technology. The same technology used in police radar devices.

* Speedtrac Radar Gun comes with 1-year factory warranty on parts & labor
* This Radar Gun can be used by a single person - you don't have to hold it in your hands!
* Speedtrac Radar Gun is factory-tested and built to provide years of reliable and maintenance free use. OpticsPlanet.com has hundreds of happy customers using this radar gun for many high and low speed applications such as hockey, baseball, softball tennis, s****r, racquet all, lacrosse, skating, running, jogging, cycling, auto racing, autocross, carting, ATV Racing, RC Cars, Speed Pitch Booth, and much, much more!
* With relatively small size of 6.5" height, 7.0" width, and 2.3" depth and fairly light weight of only 1.1 pounds (500g) – without batteries, Speedtrack Radar Gun's portable compact design allows to carry this radar gun anywhere - it is great for indoor and outdoor use. * Speed trac Radar Gun utilizes integrated the latest X-band Doppler radar speed measurement technology - just like the police radar gun!
* All Doppler radar guns are subject to an "Angle Error". The formula for calculation of the delta is Cosine of angle X actual speed = radar reading. At small angles the error is very small. Speedtrac Radar Gun Accuracy (when used correctly) is ±1-2 MPH.
* Speed trac Speed Radar Gun has a built-in carrying/hanging handle/stand
* Speedtrac Speed Radar Gun operates on 4 "C" cell batteries (not included)

That ad material about SpeedTrac (formerly called SpeedChek is curious:

1) Neither device is a gun even tho the new version calls itself one. It is a box that you throw balls past. You don't hold it. It has no trigger.

2) It mentions increased range but the new specs say it picks up a ball from only 30 feet, which is less, as I recall, than the old one claimed.

"Distance range (non-motorized) / Approx. 30 feet"

BUT the SpeedChek was perhaps the best device on the market for SELF-training. I've posted on the subject in detail before. Just be careful that a pitcher doesn't use any radar very often. A session or two a month, during the off-season, will probably add speed safely. Don't use it at all during the season.

This device serves a limited function very well. It isn't much like a $700-$900 gun which has greater accuracy and range of several hundred feet.

I just have to chime in on this one. I ordered a Speedtrac thru OpticsPlanet.com in August of 2004. Problem was, the manufacturer hadn't even finished retooling it yet. OpticsPlanet blamed Soeedtrac. I waited NINE months for the thing to finally arrive, and what a waste of time that wait was!! The product did NOT work, plain and simple. Imagine my frustration when, after waiting nine months, I take it out to use with my pitchers and it fails to operate. Batteries in right? Check. Thing turned on? Check. Distance and angle set up per instructions? Check.
Piece of garbage!! I immediately returned it to OpticsPlanet who gratefully gave me a full refund.

The most accurate 'cheap' velocity tool I've ever used is the simple little GloveRadar.

Was just reading the specs. It is very low powered and thus has a range of just a few feet. Measures speed at the glove. I guess you add about 1 mph per 7 feet of pitching distance to get the out-of-hand speed.

Probably a nice gimmick for the $60 it costs.

But it requires a second person to catch the ball and read the speed. Similarly, guns also require someone to work the gun.

With Speedchek, a pitcher can practice on his own. The large digits on the box display the speed which can be read up to about 60 feet away.

For HS/College pitching, a Stalker or Jugs is the way to go. Buy a good used one, and sell it for a small loss a few years later.

My guess is they would be very easy to sell on Ebay. I have seen very few listed. Beware of beat up used police models.
After the Speedtrac debacle, the parents of the players I work with coughed up a nice chunk of change and we got ourselves a Stalker. It came direct from Stalker in Plano, TX as a refurbished model. Man, what an incredible deal. We saved hundreds and the unit we received works peerfectly and not a blemish on it.
http://www.stalkerradar.com and then click where it says "Internet Specials" (I think that's what it says) for the refurb packages.
