Orioles, my 2009 son just got one today, Oct 16. I think this is a great showcase with excellent talent. Some of that top talent will likely be drafted out of HS. My son is a very good player, but not of that caliber. He throws mid 80's from SS, hits for average and was clocked at 6.87 at PG's Academic Showcase last summer. My concern is that those kids who don't have MLB bodies and don't do something extraordinary at this showcase(ie 88+ from the mound or major power at the plate), may get lost in the crowd a bit. There will be hundreds of kids at this showcase. PG runs an excellent showcase, by the way. Does anyone know if this showcase occurs during the quiet or dead period of recruiting?
Our son was also invited to the showcase, but we apprached it from a different perspective. He went during his junior year for the sole purpose to see the kind of players that would be at the next level. We wanted to learn from him whether he was ready to commit to learning and developing himself to be better, before we were going to pursue the extra lessons and time to this sport. If he was ready to work hard, we would be there financialy and emotionaly. He came away realizing what needed to be done and excited to put in the effort. Needless to say, attending the PG event was the best thing for him.
