Does anyone have a link that shows horrible swings by ML’rs? Everything I see seems to show only perfect swings at perfect pitches in perfect spots, but as we all know, everyone takes some pretty sorry hacks.

It isn’t like the goal isn’t to make a perfect judgment about every pitch, then put a perfect swing on it when the trigger does get pulled, and then when the ball is hit that it somehow miss leather, but that isn’t reality. Reality is, getting that done every time is impossible, but the ones who do most often will be the most “successful”.

Is it possible that by studying the horrible looking swings and the situations they were taken, it might be that just as much if more could be learned than by only looking at perfect ones?

The problem is what you do with the information once you see it? If you recognize the incorrect fundamentals in a swing, what next?

In other words if you lack the ability to correct the mechanics, there is little good that can come from watching bad swings.

Now, having said that, I think a big challenge for athletes, parents and coaches I work with is how to recognize the poor swings in their athletes. Therefore, it's a two way street. Athletes, parents, and coaches alike must learn correct fundamentals and what they look and feel like, then they must also understand how to recognize the improper techniques in a swing in order to solve the problem.

Here's a nasty swing Smile

Nate,

That's the swing that essentially ended Randy Johnson's career.

Amazingly, immediately after that inning, Johnson took the mound again and tried to pitch against the Astros with 8 - 10 mph off of his FB, in comparison with his first inning of work before that swing.

Then the opposing pitcher, Roy Oswalt, hit a little dribbler to the 3rd base side and Johnson grabbed the same shoulder on a botched throw to 1B...that did it, he was then taken out of that game and quickly put on the DL after MRI showed a torn labrum.

He did come off the DL and pitch again much later in the season, but announced retirement at the end of that year.
