1 out, runners on 1st & 3rd. Both running on the pitch. Batter hits short blooper to 2Bman. He catches it -- runner scores -- 2Bman throws to 1B to double off the runner for the 3rd out.

It's been noted on this forum before that even though the 1Bman needs only step on first to get the out, by the rulebook it's classified as an appeal play not a force out. So on the basis of timing, the run would count.

My question is this. If the defensive team realizes this before they leave the field, could they throw back to 3rd (after the 3rd out) for an appeal play there in order to cancel out the run?
