Can anyone tell me if being chosen to play in the game at the end of the local area code tryout will normally help with recruiting?

Not much, IMHO. The game at the end simply allows those who are scouting to get a bit of a live game view of those in those games. Actually participating in the Area Code event is much more helpful with recruiting as there's many more recruiters there and they get to look at the players much longer.
