Ok needs some direction here. My son recieved an invitation for the Arizona Diamondbacks Area Code Team Tryout. We are always recieving invitations TeamOne, PerfectGame, Blue Gray some good some not so good. Is this something that we should attend and has anyone had any experience with this.

My Son received an invite to tryout for the Diamondbacks Area Code Team today also. I understand that some players get invited straight out...no tryout. Is this still a big deal, since he would need to "try out". It dosn't look like there is any cost involved, so its not a money maker.

From what I have been able to figure out, you are supposed to accept this invitation, especially if you live in Florida. My son has.

I don't know if I would go so far to say you are "SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT" the invite but it is quite an honor to be invited to the Area Code tryouts and the games. Yes, some players can bypass the tryouts or at least they did in the past. I know in my son's case he was invited to the tryouts and we had to decline because we had not budgeted the travel expense for the tryouts or the games. The scout said he could bypass the tryouts and go directly to the games but we passed on the games too since he wanted to stay in the Southeastern Conference and felt as if he had gotten sufficent exposure.

If you're a top level talent and I mean top level and live anywhere in the East or Southeast you might want to look into East Coast Pro Showcase possibilities as well.

ECP, is run completely by MLB scouts and is one of the best scouting events every year. This year it will be held in Lakeland, FL.

I hear what your saying, but isn't the ECP an invite only event?
As I recall, the event is held in early Aug.
I certainly could be wrong, but I know of 2 palyers who received their ECP invites awhile ago.
Not sure how "late" they still invite players......

Yes, it is invite only. But I believe they hold a tryout or two. I think one is scheduled in Dayton shortly after our national.
