My son (a 2007 graduate) was invited to the Area Code Tryouts last year. It was a great learning experience... meaning that IF we only knew then what we know now. He went for accuracy from 3B to 1B instead of speed. His bat broke in practice and he had to borrow one. Etc.

My question is -- what are the odds he will be invited again this year? His summer coach last year was the one that got him the invite. He is not coaching this year. Are there different ways to get an invite?

Thank you for any and all advice!

A professional scout must recommend to attend the Area Code tryouts.

Most invitations are sent to juniors. Your son was invited as a soph. Not many sophs are invited. So, most players only attend the tryout one time.

The D1 coaches get the mailing list of attendees which is likely the reason for your mail volume.

The scouts/coaches keep notes on players they have seen. They follow and monitor their performance and progress.

Now that your son is on "the list", he will likely be followed this spring (much of which you will not be aware of).

Then after July 1 of 2006, you may start receiving phone calls from coaches. This is when you will be able to learn of sincere interest in your son.

It is a time consuming, fun, interesting and learning "ride". You can learn very much about what to expect from this web site. Be sure to read some of the informative articles on the home page of this web site.

Good luck.
