After 30 seasons at SHHS, 14 as head coach, Ronnie Powers is retiring.

Thank you coach for all you did for me as a player and coach. Your success at Sam isn't only measured in wins, but in how your teams competed, and the positive impact you made on those that you coached. You could have left for jobs that would have given you a better chance to win, but you did not. The last several seasons, even though the chances of your teams making the playoffs were slim to none, you never stopped coaching. You are a better man than me.

You replaced one of the all-time greats, but you were your own man. 5 coaches in 47 years at Sam Houston, all of us Ex-Texans are very proud. Happy Retirement Coach, you deserve it!
