From April 17 article in Houston Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5711062.html):

Dallas Baptist makes waves

Four years removed from NCAA provisional status and in its third season as a Division I member, Dallas Baptist is poised to qualify for its first NCAA Tournament.

According to projections by statistics guru Boyd Nation, the Patriots' RPI (27) is lower than nationally ranked Texas A&M (RPI: 30), Texas (RPI: 31), Vanderbilt (RPI: 32) and Missouri (RPI: 40), and they need only to win 13 of their final 21 games to earn an at-large bid to the postseason. Dallas Baptist (23-10) doesn't have a conference affiliation.

"It's definitely a good feeling to have some recognition, see us high in the RPI rankings and (have) people talking about it," DBU coach Dan Heefner said. "We've been playing a great schedule all year, and we've got some good games coming up the rest of the season. We're just going to have to keep playing well, take care of business on our end, and whatever happens happens. We're enjoying it so far. We want to keep it going."

The Patriots have helped their cause with victories over Baylor and **** Roberts, and a pair of wins over Rice. The results of a three-game set at A&M in early May might determine whether the Patriots can use the NCAA Tournament as part of their recruiting pitch in the future.

"The regionals, super regionals and College World Series are what every high school kid is watching," Heefner said. "If we could break that huddle, I think that would really help us take off."
