I call my partner the night before. We go over where to park, what time to meet, and who's working the plate.

The day of the game, I'll call the school about 30 minutes prior to leaving the house. I'll talk to the AD, his or her secretary, or the baseball coach. I'll get their name and write it down (once I leave the house, I get paid). If it's a rainy day, I might call the school a few hours before as well. Usually, though, we've already gotten the notice through Arbiter at that point.

When I arrive, I call my partner again. I let him or her know that I'm on property and where I'm parked (if it's different than the agreed-upon place from before).

Im almost identical to Yawetag....

The day of the game, I'll check arbiter....

If its an "iffy weather day" I call the school about 30 minutes prior to leaving work.... around here, it can be blue sky here and raining all day a short drive away....

When I arrive, I text my partner just to let him know that I'm on property and where I'm parked...

its always good to check...I cant afford too many "show up for nothing" days......leaving work early and driving sometimes an hour or more only to find out the game has been cancelled, delayed, postponed or moved is hard to overcome....

And its happended more times than I can count....
Weather is so tough to plan around. I always had a list of the umpires names and phone numbers to contact them. The second I decided a game had to be cancelled I would call each ump first, other team second and assigner third. I hoped to talk to the umps themselves but sometimes I would get voicemail, relatives, a boss or some other person. I called the other team next because they may be trying to get a bus or something and if we can work out a make up date that makes it much easier. Then I call the assigner as a back up and give him the make up date if possible so he can start working on covering. Most of the times the umpires had my cell phone so it usually worked out and we had no problems.
High School: I email my partners four to five days in advance covering where we will meet, who will do what and what the uniform(s) of the day will be. I request a reply to confirm the message was received.

Upon arrival, I notify the home coach or AD that we are there.

College: I confirm my schedules with the assigners shortly after receiving them. There is normally a student or staff member to let us in the dressing room. They report that we have arrived.

I try my hardest to get the AD or coach, but oftentimes they're not available, whether in a meeting or a class, or on the field getting it ready for the game.

No matter who I talk to, I always get their name and title.
