So, my son (2013) has a school he wants to go visit. We were talking about it and I suggested maybe waiting a couple weeks when they start working out and he could maybe go up on a Saturday but I really have no clue how "unofficial visits" work.

So can he ask for a visit, how does he do so, and are some days better then others. This is a school that has shown interest and wants to keep an eye on him, so it wouldnt really be out of nowhere for him to contact this coach.

thanks

By all means contact the coach and let him know that you are interested in coming by the school and the dates you are thinking about. They will usually take it from there, but if not contact admissions and they also arrange tours. Best to look at their schedule and go on a home game, or if not make sure you take in a practice. Again coaches usually love to have unofficial visitors.
If you live close to the college, I would contact the coach and go watch a practice. See how the coach treats the players, listen to see if you can pick up on his philosophy, talk to players (if possible). Then as BOF said go watch a home game. If your son is a 2012, how does he stack up to the players on the team? Could he get immediate playing time?...To some that last one is not very important. Make sure your son likes the atmosphere at the college, too.

Are there rules that limit unoffical visits during HS baseball season?

Thanks

No.

Actually, it can be a very good time because it offers the opportunity to see a team play during one of its weekend series. Properly coordinated with the coaching staff, you ought to learn a lot about the program.
