Arizona State's facilities are top notch. I was on campus a couple years ago. That's all I know.

I have no idea about the current coaching staff but ASU has long had a reputation for over recruiting players and sending many of them to JCs and for cutting the scholarships of players at will.

If you are willing to take a shot at that super competitive environment then it could be the best of the best, but you'd better be the best of the best if you want to stay there.

Looks like this was a very successful year given all distractions, coaching change. I think the recruiting ways are a little different nowadays but it's only been a year. Only time will tell if the blueprint of the Murphy years remains. Props to Coach Esmay and his staff for a job well done this year.

Sadly I've heard the exact same story from more than one source.

Here's something that will give you some insight into the ASU baseball program. When I was in grad school there Barry Bonds was the third best outfielder on the team. Odibe mcDowell lead off, played CF and was a player of the year winner. Mike Deveraux batted third and played RF. Bonds hit 5th and played left. A few years later all three were starting CFers in the bigs.

I think that those who ask about schools like ASU and Texas can answer their own questions by asking themselves a simple rhetorical question frankly i.e., Are schools like Arizona State and Texas any good?

One thing I can say is that I like how Coach Esmay handles himself in and around the field.

Check out the fall roster. Only 37 kids. that should tell you the major difference right there.
