butting into the Ill forum...
but it also happened @ Marshall over the weekend...Chrisman pitched 147...temp in 50's with rain...Coach afraid of his own bullpen, I guess...
Some of these coaches should have their heads examined. And players must learn to take more responsibility for their own care!
As always, Murphy has some pretty high powered pitchers coming into the program in '08. Do you think they will get scared and sign pro to avoid being put in the same position Satow was Sunday night? I hear Mike Bowden never went 100 pitches in the minors with the Red Sox, what do you think Murphy would have done with him. Satow was 5'9, 150 and how big is Bowden?
Soxnole,

I did a flat ground workout with Bowden and Crosby right before he left for Spring Training. Brandon was doing Mikes morning workout with him this Winter. . He found out what a workout was.....

He is absolutly chissled right now. Looking good!

Small world, Bob Kipper , former HS teammate and teammate in Pirates Organazation coached him last Summer with Bo Sox. They promoted Mike and moved Bobby with him this year. .
Looks like ASU isn't the only program with high pitch counts. Here is part of an article from Baseball American about David Price of Vanderbilt potential top pick of this year's draft;

Vanderbilt doesn't list pitch counts on its website, but Xavier and Mississippi do. He threw 127 pitches against the Musketeers and 137 against the Rebels. He averaged 3.7 pitches per batter in both contests; facing 30 batters against Illinois-Chicago yields an estimate of 111 pitches. That would make a total of 375 pitches over his last three starts.

Looks like a few Tampa Bay Devil Ray fans are a little concerned with the high pitch counts of Price.

There is a pretty good website; Boyd's World that has a pitchers abuse count that has a lot of data, more than some care to view; here's the link

I remember the Mike Marshall Era when he was pitching 162 innings out of the pen. The White Sox going with a three man rotation (I guess you can't count pitches for Wilbur Wood) in the 70's for a few years and it was an excuse for all the high school coaches in that time period to throw you more. I remember pitching 4 days in a row once. Now this new article in SI comes out about high pitch counts and the Japanese pitchers and now some coaches will use it to their benefit again. Wait & see.
TPSBULL,

Its not a matter of feeling like your tired or hurt, the problem here is that you may feel perfectly fine and begin to do some things mechanically wrong as you tire and wear out. This is when guys can get hurt. Not sure about you, but I cant remember a time that I ever told a coach I was tired. I was too bull headed.

I dont get too carried away with pitch counts because I am a big believer that if your pitch counts are up then your not throwing strikes. If your not throwing strikes ,your not pitching long. End of story.
