Any thoughts on relative strengths of teams in this Conference: Hickory, Indian River, Salem, Princess Anne, Maury, Kempsville, Green Run, Norview?

Hickory and Indian River are new additions to 5A, new this year. I would think that Hickory will be at the top of the conference.

Hickory was a 5A last year. They are simply realigned into a different conference this year. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure the same goes for Indian River.
Given the list of schools mentioned by the OP, I'm fairly confident that Hickory would be the best in class out of that group.

I think you are correct. And I agree that Hickory will probably dominate.
Both Hickory and Indian River remain 5A. Under the most recent realignment of conferences, they were moved from the PenSouth Conference to the Atlantic this year. Hickory has to be the favorite with Polansky (VT), Schneider (Radford) and other returning seniors who have experienced success of the past three years. Indian River returns a number of seniors, including Fuqua (VMI), Spainhour and Kasiski. Hopefully both teams will do well against the Virginia Beach and Norfolk teams in the Conference. Certainly the travel times to and from games will be far less than those of last year to Gloucester, Menchville and Warwick.
